Indian High Commission & Consul General of India in Australia
Australia's Indian community continues to grow, and so does the demand for passport, OCI, visa, PCC and other consular services. The High Commission of India and Consulates General of India in Australia provide an important service to Indian citizens, NRIs and the wider Indian Australian community. Their work goes far beyond processing applications — officers also assist Indians in emergencies, support important government matters and contribute to strengthening the relationship between India and Australia. With a large and growing community to serve, their work deserves our patience, courtesy and respect.
Making Consular Services Easier
The Government of India continues to modernise and digitise services for Indians overseas, including OCI-related and other online consular processes. These improvements are making government services easier to access and reducing unnecessary paperwork and physical interaction. Behind these services are officers and staff processing applications, responding to enquiries, implementing changing requirements and assisting people in urgent situations.
Respect Their Time and Help CGI and HCI to Serve You Better
Before calling, emailing or visiting a Consulate for a routine enquiry, please check the official government website, published guidelines, FAQs and online application tracking first. Many questions about documents, fees, procedures and application status can already be answered online. Repeated calls, emails or visits for information that is readily available can add to the workload — an officer may at the same time be dealing with a distressed Indian citizen, emergency visa, urgent travel, medical emergency, death overseas or another time-sensitive matter. Please check your application status online first and use the correct official channel; contact the Consulate when official assistance is genuinely required, and allow reasonable time for a response if you have already been in touch.
Most importantly, please treat Consular Officers and staff with patience, courtesy and respect. They must work within government rules and may not always be able to provide the outcome or timeframe an applicant is hoping for. Emergency contact numbers should be used only for genuine emergencies — a little patience from all of us helps them serve everyone better.
Indian Australians — Ambassadors of India
The High Commission and Consulates also play an important role in India–Australia relations, trade, education, culture and community welfare. As Indian Australians, we too can be proud ambassadors of India by sharing our culture, heritage, spirituality, traditions and cuisine and encouraging more Australians to experience India.
